Toy-R-Us is Sold & Likely Import Duties on Imports from China June, 2005

  • Greetings!

Toys have recently been in the news.

There are a couple of significant, newsworthy items that may impact us all. We've already noticed a positive change. How long it lasts is anyone's guess...

    Toys-R-Us is Sold
    Mr. Potato Head

With the recent sale of the Toys-R-Us retail chain to a group of investors, one of which is a real estate developer, it is believed that the acquisition will lead to most Toys-R-Us stores being liquidated and the real estate sold or leased for other use.

We have already seen a significant increase in many manufacturers' orders either being postponed or cancelled altogether. As you may or may not know, this is how we obtain most of our toys. In recent weeks, the quality of toys purchased by us has been much improved and we have noticed a significant increase in the offers made to us. As you can imagine, this is of great benefit to us and to our customers. How long it lasts is anyone's guess.

Import Duties on Toys from China Likely
    Chijna Toy Mfr

The Bush administration has accused China of currency manipulation in order to make Chinese-made goods sold by U.S. retailers artificially cheap.

With 81% of the toys imported into the United States, or $47 Billion per year, manufactured in China, this will undoubtedly affect each and everyone of us. The U.S. congress has threatened to impose penalties of up to 27.5 percent on everything China exports to the United States unless Beijing revalues its currency.

If China does not act, imports from there will cost 27.5% more than they currently do.

    In conclusion

If you have been thinking of buying new, overstock toys, there may not be a better time to do so than right now...

Not only are they 27.5% cheaper, the selection is the best that we've seen since early, 2003!
